José Rodeiro An Archway by Francesco Guardi. 18" x 24," watercolor, 1999 (Property of Victor and Joyce Martinez)
José Rodeiro is fascinated by Francesco Guardi’s sepia-watercolors, seeing in Guardi a kindred spirit. Both Canaletto and Guardi were Venetian masters known for their vedute (cityscapes). Guardi avoided depicting insignificant details, instead, he focused on the overall view or effect (“impression”); thereby, capturing the specific mood of the particular milieu that he depicted. |
